Kamaru Usman won his last fight against Emil Meek at just 30%, and now he can add a victory over Demian Maia with two broken hands. Usman once again played up the adversity he went through to earn a decision win in Chile on Saturday night during his post fight victory interview.
”No excuses,” he told Jimmy Smith. “But I think i broke my right hand in the second. I wasn’t letting it go as much and then I broke my left one in the third. It’s just to let everyone know.”
Backstage Usman expanded on the injury to his right hand, which he says kept him from being able to finish Maia after he hurt him in the second round.

”I threw a straight, straight down the middle,” he told Laura Sanko. “I hurt my hand previously, right before that, but I threw it anyways right down the middle and when I threw it and I dropped him I felt it crunch again, I was like f**k. I could try to finish him right now but we still got more rounds to go.”
Usman turned up to the post fight press conference with an ice pack wrapped around his right hand but didn’t seem to have much trouble holding the mic in his left. So we’d wait until he sees a doctor before trying to figure out what percentage of Usman we saw in this fight with Maia.
