UFC 227 -- which is set to go down on August 4, 2018 inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, California -- is starting to take shape, as a Middleweight bout between Derek Brunson and Antonio Carlos Junior has been added to the slate.
The fight was announced during a recent episode of “UFC Tonight.”
Brunson will look to bounce back after suffering a first round knockout loss to Ronaldo Souza at UFC on FOX 27 last January, which ended his two-fight win streak and halted his championship hopes once again.
Antonio, meanwhile, has been on a nice hot streak, winning five in a row with his latest win coming at the expense of Tim Boetsch via first round submission at UFC on FOX on FOX 29 which went down a little over two weeks ago (see it again here). Junior has managed to rack up a 7-2-1 record inside the Octagon, but a win over Brunson would be the biggest of his career and help jump up a level or three.
As for Derek, a win would help him get back on track after going 2-3 over his last five bouts, with his losses coming at the hands of heavy hitters Anderson Silva, Robert Whittaker and the aforementioned “Jacare.”
As it stands, UFC 227 is set to feature a Bantamweight championship rematch between division champion T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt. Plus, Nate Diaz is in talks to potentially make his long-awaited return to the Octagon at this pay-per-view (PPV) event.
