UFC 224 medical suspensions: Amanda Nunes, Jacare Souza facing potential six-month sits

New, 11 comments

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to pay-per-view (PPV) last Saturday night (May 12, 2018) inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, featuring Amanda Nunes in her latest women’s bantamweight title defense against Octagon veteran Raquel Pennington.

While “Rocky” took the brunt of the violence (watch it), it was “Lioness” who earned the longer medical suspension. She’ll be on the bench for six-months alongside co-headliner Ronaldo Souza, who like his Brazilian counterpart, needs a right-foot X-Ray before getting cleared for competition (because of this).

That’s not all.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
