Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight contender, Leslie Smith, filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) earlier this month, accusing the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion of illegal practices and “creating a climate of fear.”
Not surprisingly, UFC President Dana White doesn’t give a shit, nor does he understand what all the hullabaloo is about. So I guess that means he’s either grossly incompetent, or hasn’t read a single headline since UFC Atlantic City — and doesn’t converse with anyone at the corporate compound.
I mean, there’s no possible way he could be lying ... right?
“I literally don’t know anything about it,” White told the UFC Unfiltered podcast (via MMA Junkie). “I know that she’s upset and she filed something. She’s suing us or filed something with somebody. I don’t know. I’m at a point in my life where I don’t focus on that shit anymore. That’s not my problem. Thats somebody else’s problem. I get to do all the fun shit.”
Ahem ... Mr. Russell, if you would please.
Smith is the founder of Project Spearhead, an attempt to unionize MMA fighters. “The Peacemaker” was recently paid both her “show” and “win” money
to go away for UFC Fight Night 128, despite not stepping foot inside the Octagon (because of this).
White may be correct in his assessment of the situation, at least in terms of how it applies to his role as promotion president. Once the backbone of the company, the boxing aficionado is now a hired gun charged with doing fun shit like this.
I guess that means it’s Ari’s problem?
