Bellator 198 “Fedor vs. Mir” went down April 28, 2018 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois just outside of Chicago. The main event saw Fedor Emelianenko destroy Frank Mir in just 48 seconds to advance in this year’s Heavyweight Grand Prix.
Earlier in the night Gerald Harris stepped up on short notice to fill in for a (presumably) injured John Salter in a bout with Rafael Lovato Jr. on the main card for Paramount Network. Harris previously retired from the sport of MMA twice, but the lure of a payday for a catchweight bout at 188 pounds was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Though Lovato won by submission in just over a minute, a grateful Bellator offered Harris a full fight deal for going to bat for them, something that according to Harris may have been on the table going in.
“Trust me, the risk was definitely worth the reward in this fight.”
The next bout for Harris has yet to be announced but undoubtedly Harris hopes it lasts longer than his first Bellator bout — or perhaps not if Harris can land his vaunted knockout slam.
