Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is trying to get its welterweight division back on track now that reigning champion Tyron Woodley has been sidelined until late summer. The means to that end will be a interim title fight between Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington.
A decision that baffled “The Chosen One.”
According to promotion president Dana White, he’s been trying to get the 170-pound flip-flopper back into the cage for several weeks, but those pesky doctors and their injury notes continue to give him pause.
“Tyron Woodley, we were trying to get him to fight,” White told UFC Tonight. “He came back with a doctor’s note that says he is injured and cannot fight until August.”
While Dos Anjos and Convington battle for the substitute strap, fellow welterweight contenders Stephen Thompson and Darren Till will hook ‘em up — by way of UFC Liverpool main event — for the next spot in line.
Hopefully by then, Woodley can get a new note.
