And the fight announcements just keep on coming.
According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is ready to stage a championship rematch between current Bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt at the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Aug. 4, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.
Though the promotion itself has yet to make the bout official, UFC does have a special press conference set for this Friday (April 6, 2018) prior to the UFC 223 weigh-in ceremony in Brooklyn. And it’s no coincidence “No Love” is en route to New York.
See you soon Brooklyn!!— Cody Garbrandt (@Cody_Nolove) April 4, 2018
Dillashaw initially defeated his former training partner at UFC 217 last November in New York via second round knockout to claim the 135-pound strap (see it again here). Since then, Cody has been on the campaign trail to land an immediate rematch, though “Viper” wasn’t too keen on allowing him the opportunity before earning his way back up.
Plus, Garbrandt was on his own quest to land a super fight with UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, which UFC president Dana White recently iced.
Indeed, it seems the UFC higher-ups did enough to persuade Dillashaw to grant his former Team Alpha Male (TAM) stablemate a chance to win the gold hardware back, which is good news for the entire combat community.
