Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight titleholder, Rose Namajunas, captured the 115-pound crown by obliterating Joanna Jedrzejczyk at the UFC 217 pay-per-view (PPV) event last November in New York City.
That’s probably why the former champion has already psyched herself out ahead of this weekend’s UFC 223 co-main event in Brooklyn, New York, where “Thug” Rose will give Jedrzejczyk a chance to avenge the first defeat of her pro career.
Namajunas talks to FloCombat:
“I think that I took [that intimidation] away from her the minute she knew about me, even before the fight. I think she’s been psyching herself out just by the presence of myself, ever since I’ve been on the scene. I’ve just been freaking her out ever since I’ve been around. I don’t think that’s going to change with this fight. We’re constantly improving my game. My reactions, my reflexes, physically and mentally, it seems like everything is perfect right now for me to be a dominant champion.”
Leading up to their 115-pound do-over, Jedrzejczyk promises to be even more arrogant than she was ahead of UFC 217, despite losing in dramatic fashion her last time out. Namajunas, meanwhile, will continue to play the strong, silent type.
The winner could move on to face Jessica Andrade later this year, unless Jedrzejczyk prevails and the promotion decides to stage a rubber match. To see who else is fighting at UFC 223 click here.
