The great part of having the biggest roster in mixed martial arts (MMA) is having plenty of options to call up for a last-minute bout in case the injury bug bites. And the bug has been active as of late, as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently lost a big fight between Matt Brown and Carlos Condit after “Immortal” tore his ACL, subsequently forcing him out of the upcoming UFC on FOX 29 event on April 14, 2018, in Glendale, Arizona.
Stepping up to take Brown’s place will be Alex Oliveira, who will face “Natural Born Killer” in the co-headlining act of the FOX-televised event on just 11 days notice, according to a report from MMA Fighting. Oliveira hasn’t competed since Dec. 2017 when he suffered a third round technical knockout loss to Yancy Medeiros in what was a highly-entertaining Welterweight war (highlights). Prior to that, “Cowboy” was the proud earner of a four-fight win streak.
As for Condit, he has seen better days after dropping his last three bouts inside the Octagon to Robbie Lawler, Demian Maia and more recently against Neil Magny last December. Indeed, the former UFC interim Welterweight champion needs a win in a bad way after recently cutting his retirement short.
As for the fight itself, fight fans should be in for an entertaining affair as both men are keen on letting the action play out on the feet, totaling of 11 “Fight Night” bonuses between them.
UFC on FOX 29 will be headlined by a rather intriguing Lightweight scrap between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier. To see who else is competing at the event click here.
