While competing under the bright lights of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon is the least of Ray Borg’s concerns at this particular moment, the former flyweight title challenger has unfortunately withdrawn from his upcoming matchup with Brandon Moreno at UFC Fight Night 129 on May 19 from Santiago, Chile.
MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reports that Borg has been forced out of his rescheduled bout with “Assassin Baby” following medical complications with his newborn son.
UFC Chile is only three weeks away, making training and travel nearly impossible for Borg as he cares for his child, who has already undergone two brain surgeries after doctors discovered he had developed hydrocephalus. Borg’s son, Anthony, is currently hooked up to a ventilator and is being monitored for potential seizures.
This is devastating news, especially if you have a little one of your own. With his son’s future in limbo, Borg has understandably decided to step away from competition for the time being. Even if Anthony makes a quick recovery (which is what we are all hoping for) it wouldn’t be fair to have “Tazmexican Devil” leave his family behind, fly to Chile, and compete after the worst training camp any fighter could ever encounter.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Borg family.
As of now, UFC has yet to announce a replacement opponent for Moreno.
