Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight contender, Ray Borg, was all smiles after his baby boy Anthony underwent successful brain surgery on Wednesday, sharing the update with his followers on social media.
Then, unexpectedly, things took a turn for the worse.
Anthony was sent back into surgery for a second brain shunt and once again emerged with complications. Borg warned of “tough times ahead” for his family as doctors continue to monitor his son’s recovery.
“Anthony’s second surgery went well, but he unfortunately is having complications breathing and is hooked up to a breathing respirator,” Borg wrote on social media. “He also underwent a blood transfusion this morning along with being hooked up to an EEG machine to check for possible seizures. Tough times ahead, thank you for your continued prayers.”
Whether or not this affects Borg’s upcoming showdown with Brandon Moreno in Chile remains to be seen, but the fight was recently moved from UFC 223 after the Conor McGregor bus attack sent Borg to the hospital.
I’m sure that’s inconsequential at the moment, as the top priority is to get Anthony back home where he belongs.
