Alexander Gustafsson inks new ‘lucrative’ UFC deal, vows to be champion real soon

Be prepared to see a lot of Alexander Gustafsson inside the Octagon, as “The Mauler” has inked a new contract with the world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) organization.

Indeed, Alex didn’t bother testing free agent waters, opting to remain UFC for the foreseeable future and in the process took what seems to be yet another jab at Daniel Cormier, this time for his upcoming retirement from the fight game.

And according to Alex’s manager Nima Safapour’s comments to ESPN, “The Mauler’s” new deal is rather lucrative.

“This is the most lucrative deal of Alex’s career. And one of the best deals in the space. Both the UFC and Alex are happy. It is a good deal for everyone. [UFC legal counsel] Hunter Campbell is a solid operator. We are excited to continue to grow with the UFC as partners and collaborators. The title is within reach now more than ever.”

Gustafsson has been on the sidelines for some time now due to a bum shoulder, and hasn’t competed since knocking out Glover Teixeira at UFC 109 in May of 2017. But now that he has a new deal intact, expect to see Gustafsson back to knocking heads inside the eight-walled cage in the near future.

A championship fight against the aforementioned Cormier seems to be out of the question for the time being, as “DC” is currently lined up to face UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 on July 7, 2018. After that, there is no telling if and when Daniel intends to drop back down to 205 pounds to defend his title one last time before he calls it a career.

In the meantime, care to offer up some suggestions to Alex’s comeback fight?
