Current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley went on record saying his rival Stephen Thompson will make “light work” of Darren Till when the two 170-pound combatants collide at UFC Fight Night 130 on May 27, 2018.
Till was not impressed with that assessment.
“I couldn’t really give a (expletive) about what Woodley says,” Till told MMAjunkie. “What does light work actually mean? I don’t know what that means. Is any fight light work?” pondered the hard-hitting welterweight. “Is he trying to say I’m light work?”
Till plans to make Woodley eat his words by putting on a winning performance against the former title contender in his own backyard of Liverpool, England.
“That just doesn’t make any sense. To me that doesn’t make any sense at all. No one is light work at all. So he can tune in the 27th of May if he thinks anyone is going to make light work of me. I’m going to show everyone.”
Indeed, Till has proven he is far from an easy out, going undefeated (16-0-1, 5-0 UFC) so far in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, including knocking out longtime veteran and fellow fearsome striker, Donald Cerrone, in the very first round in his previous outing (video replay).
Thompson, however, is in the prime of his career and has championship experience making it safe to say he is “The Gorilla’s” stiffest test to date. A win for Till would put him on the fast track for a shot at the title, which is good since the heat between he and Woodley is already going strong.
Though there isn’t a guarantee “The Chosen One” will be champion by the time Darren punches his ticket to the big dance.
