The upcoming UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) event -- which is slated to go down on Saturday July 7, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of International Fight Week — is starting to take shape, as Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the booking of an intriguing Welterweight scrap that will see Mike Perry return to action to face Yancy Medeiros.
Perry was last seen coming up short against Max Griffin at UFC on FOX 28 last February (recap), suffering the second unanimous decision defeat in as many tries. Two months prior, “Platinum” was beaten and bloodied by Santiago Ponzinibbio.
Now, the outspoken 170-pound contender will look to end his skid as he faces off against one of the most exciting fighters in the division in Medeiros, who most recently saw his three-fight win streak go out the window courtesy of Donald Cerrone (see it again here).
Yancy (30) is a 12-fight UFC veteran who holds win over the likes of Alex Oliveira and Erick Silva, but has yet to capture the big fight he’s been looking for. While Perry isn’t exactly the biggest name in the world, a win over “Platinum” will give the Hawaiian a big boost up the rankings.
UFC 226: “Miocic vs Cormier” will feature a Heavyweight championship fight that will see Stipe Miocic defend his strap against current UFC Light Heavyweight title holder, Daniel Cormier. Also on the card, Gokhan Saki will make his much-anticipated sophomore effort inside the Octagon when he faces Khalil Rountree.
