Colby Covington has done a great job of getting under the skin of fellow fighters and fans, whether it’s bashing their significant others, spoiling movies for everyone or insulting an entire country. But, there are a select few who refuse to fall for the hype or trash talk.
Among them is Rafael dos Anjos, who will face “Chaos” at the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view (PPV ) event on June 9, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois (details here). According to “RDA,” not everything about Covington is genuine, and he witnessed it firsthand during a recent press conference to announce their interim Welterweight title fight.
“The funny thing is that, backstage, he just [stayed looking at] his phone,” dos Anjos said on a recent appearance on “The MMA Hour.” “He wasn’t even looking around. That’s how he is. He’s that guy that, when he’s in front of the cameras, he changes. He becomes a different person. But, backstage he just was with his sunglasses, looking at his phone, and not even looking around.”
Don’t believe him? Just watch this.
Since Conor McGregor has made a wealthy living spitting fire at anyone and everything standing in his way, many have tried to follow suit, which is what dos Anjos thinks Covington is doing. Unlike McGregor, however, Covington curls up when the going actually gets tough ... as evidenced by his boomerang-related incident with Fabricio Werdum.
“So what kind of gangster is that? Gangster that when things got rough, he called police? What kind of people — I don’t get it. So fake. He’s trying to pretend to be something that he’s not. He’s trying to act and he’s being fake, and I can’t wait to expose this guy,” dos Anjos concluded.
The winner of the upcoming interim title fight will face current division champion Tyron Woodley in a title unification match. Though “RDA” was already promised a title shot against Woodley before an interim belt was introduced, a fight between “The Chosen One” and “Chaos” is one many are hoping to see.
Especially since it gives Covington a chance to prove just how “gangster” he really is.
