Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim Lightweight champion Tony Ferguson is on the road to recovery after he was forced out of his scheduled championship bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 last weekend (Sat., April 7, 2018) with a torn LCL.
After going under the knife to correct the issue, “El Cucuy” took to social media to show the combat world his scars. And they are gnarly!
Khabib went on to face Al Iaquinta after more than few flip-flops, and became the undisputed division champion after five rounds of action. Indeed, UFC president Dana White declared that “The Eagle” was the only title holder in the division, essentially stripping Ferguson of his interim strap.
The next logical step would be to book Conor vs Khabib later this year, especially since Ferguson will be out of commission for a bit while he begins his road to recovery. And if he wants a chance to reclaim his gold hardware, then it behooves him to cheer for “Notorious” as White has gone on record saying that trying to book Khabib vs Ferguson for a whopping fifth time simply isn’t in the cards.
For now, “El Cucuy” has a more important fight on his hands if he wants to get back to the top of the weight class, as a timetable for his eventual return is unclear at the moment.
