Bisping: Bus attack spoiled secret plans for Conor McGregor announcement at UFC 223

New, comments

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, was expected to make headlines with a surprise appearance at the UFC 223 pay-per-view (PPV) event last weekend in Brooklyn, New York.

He did ... just not the way the promotion had intended.

That’s according to UFC middleweight and UFC on FOX analyst Michael Bisping, who claims “Notorious” was secretly primed for a special announcement at some point during the televised broadcast ... until a dolly went through a bus window and nearly blinded this guy.

“By all accounts, Conor was going to be at the Barclays Center on Saturday night to make an announcement,” Bisping said on his official podcast (via Sherdog). “It was going to be a title fight or whatever the fight was going to be, I’m sworn to secrecy so I can’t say, but he was going to be there.”

Promotion president Dana White claimed McGregor — who showed up earlier than expected and got arrested for this — flew from Ireland to get revenge on Khabib Nurmagomedov, who clowned “Notorious” stablemate Artem Lobov earlier in the week.

No telling what McGregor and UFC had in mind. It would seem fitting to have the power-punching Irishman enter the cage and call out “The Eagle” after this happened, but we also had that silly little Floyd Mayweather rumor.

Either way, those plans went up in smoke after that spectacle at the UFC 223 media day.
