Covington: Raquel Pennington hates me because her wife wants my tiny tornado

I’m sure most mixed martial arts (MMA) fans missed the promotion’s 25th Anniversary press conference last Friday in Brooklyn, New York, which is understandable when you consider the chaos surrounding UFC 223.

Max Holloway got pulled from the card and Conor McGregor was arraigned on assault charges.

During the presser, UFC 225 co-headliner Colby Covington was doing his usual shtick, which at best recycles Chael Sonnen’s “Look at me” campaign from 2010 and at worst, sounds like a douchier version of this Nik Lentz poem.

Joining him on the dais was UFC 224 headliner Raquel Pennington, who had an unflattering critique of the trash-talking welterweight. But according to “Chaos,” it was jealousy — not tomfoolery — that got under her skin.

Covington talks to FloCombat:

“Who is Raquel Pennington? What is she, 9-5 in the weakest division in the UFC? Let me tell you the real reason Raquel Pennington is mad at me. She’s mad at me ‘cause her wife, when she was at American Top Team, Tecia Torres, was always googly-eyed over me, staring at me across the mats. She must have walked in on her wife one day looking at my Instagram ‘cause I’m so sexy, American raw steel and sex appeal. There’s the real reason. She’s not mad at what I said at the press conference. She’s just mad that her wife has googly eyes for me.”

If Torres is going to change teams, I doubt it would be for Covington.

Pennington tied the knot with “Tiny Tornado” back in 2016 (pic) and will have a chance to capture the women’s bantamweight crown when she tangles with reigning division champion Amanda Nunes next month in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

As for Covington, he’s got his own (interim) title to chase in a welterweight showdown opposite lightweight import Rafael dos Anjos. They’ll do the deed in the upcoming UFC 225 co-main event in Chicago.
