Forget Joshua vs. Parker, Povetkin vs. Price had the boxing knock out you need to see

Alexander Povetkin’s violent 5th round finish of David Price was the real highlight from Saturday’s boxing event from Wales.

Boxing events aren’t usually known for their must-see undercards, but on Saturday night in Wales it was the co-main event of the Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker card that stole the show, rather than the tepid Joshua-Parker decision that headlined.

After a back and forth start that saw both fighters knocked down in the third, heavyweight Alexander Povetkin scored a vicious fifth round knockout over England’s David Price.

Take a look:

The win kept Povetkin in possession of the WBA Inter-Continental and WBO International heavyweight titles and potentially sets up a meeting with Anthony Joshua should any issues keep the British champion from facing WBC champ Deontay Wilder and unifying the heavyweight titles. Otherwise, we could see Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte next.

As for Price, scary photos following the fight showed the boxer wearing an oxygen mask literally dripping with blood. Fortunately his friend and fellow boxer Tony Bellew gave an update on his condition later in the evening.

“He’s healthy and safe and there’s more to life than boxing,” Bellew wrote. “He’ll always be a champ in my eyes.
