Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight slugger, Curtis Blaydes, may not care about division title shots while plying his trade inside the Octagon, but he’ll certainly have one within reach if he’s able to win his next fight.
That’s because “Razor” is set to tangle with top-ranked heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem at the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view (PPV) event, locked and loaded for June 9, 2018 inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Blaydes (9-1, 1 NC) increased his stock in the 265-pound division by knocking around longtime veteran and global fan favorite Mark Hunt. Turning away the “Super Samoan” was the third straight win for the collegiate wrestling standout and left him ranked No. 5 in the division.
Speaking of title shots, Overeem (43-16, 1 NC) was oh-so-close to a Stipe Miocic rematch before running into the thunderous fists of top contender Francis Ngannou. “Demolition Man” is 5-2 since late 2014 and still very much a factor in the division title hunt.
UFC 225 does not have a main event just yet; however, a couple of fun fights are already a part of the “Windy City” fight card, including Carla Esparza vs. Claudia Gadelha at strawweight, and Joseph Benavidez vs. Sergio Pettis at flyweight.
Stay tuned for more UFC 225 fight card announcements in the coming weeks, if not days.
