After featherweight champ Max Holloway was forced to pull out of his UFC 222 title defense against Frankie Edgar with an injury, it was looking like the event might end up getting scrapped. But in the end, the UFC was able to pull some strings and get women’s featherweight champ Cris Cyborg to step up and face Invicta champ Yana Kunitskaya in the main event.
The NSAC just released the pay figures for all the fighters on UFC 222, and it’s no surprise that Cyborg leads the pack with a $500,000 flat paycheck with no win bonus. Kunitskaya is also getting a nice chunk of cash: $100,000 flat with no win bonus as well.
And just a reminder: these commission figures often don’t tell the full story of a fighter’s pay. Cyborg will undoubtedly be getting a chunk of PPV sales, and we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more ‘hidden’ money associated with her taking the fight on short notice. Oh, this doesn’t include Reebok sponsorship pay or whatever the UFC is calling it these days.
