Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion, Frank Mir, is set to collide with ex-PRIDE FC 265-pound kingpin Fedor Emelianenko as part of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament.
Get all the gory details here.
They’ll do the deed at the upcoming Bellator 198 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on April 28, 2018 inside Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., just outside of Chicago (details here). The winner is expected to face Chael Sonnen, who advanced in the tourney by fighting like a bitch turning away fellow UFC import Quinton Jackson.
To help get fight fans hyped for next month’s showdown, the promotion released a “Countdown” to Emelianenko vs. Mir, showcasing what each fighter is capable of in the twilight of their respective careers.
Maybe it’s time to chase Joe Rogan’s record on the PowerKube!
The Russian powerhouse looks to be in great shape at age 41, though some fight fans may remain skeptical after he was melted by Matt Mitrione at Bellator 180 back in June. I think most “Emperor” fans want to see the Emelianenko who tore through the Japanese circuit, not the one who limped through the ranks of Strikeforce several years later.
Which version of Fedor shows up on April 28 may not matter if Mir is on his A game.
