Welterweight veteran Jake Ellenberger will have to find himself a new opponent after Bryan Barberena was forced to withdraw from their upcoming bout at UFC Fight Night 131 on June 1 from inside Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York, due to an undisclosed injury.
The news was first reported by MMA DNA before MMAjunkie confirmed the bout fallout earlier today (Fri., Mar. 23, 2018) with UFC officials.
Remember, Barberena vs. Ellenberger was announced just two days ago.
While this is a tough pill to swallow for Barberena, who has posted a mediocre 4-3 record since entering the promotion back in 2014, it’s also bad news for Ellenberger. After all, “Juggernaut” has lost seven out of 10 Octagon appearances dating back to the start of 2013 and desperately needs to get back into the 170-pound win column. Ellenberger will now have to find himself another opponent as he approaches nearly a year off from competition..
UFC Fight Night 131, which will be headlined by a bantamweight scrap between top contenders Jimmie Rivera and Marlon Moraes, currently has the following bouts in place:
Marlon Moraes vs. Jimmie Rivera
Walt Harris vs. Daniel Spitz
Sijara Eubanks vs. Lauren Murphy
Jarred Brooks vs. Hector Sandoval
Sam Alvey vs. Gian Villante
Gregor Gillespie vs. Vinc Pichel
Jake Ellenberger vs. TBA
