UFC Liverpool: Sorry, but Jorge Masvidal ‘ain’t losing to no British dude’ like Darren Till

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced its plans for a mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Liverpool, England, with undefeated welterweight contender Darren Till taking front and center as five-round headliner.

There’s just one teeny, tiny problem.

10-8 rounds notwithstanding, UFC main events are typically not a one-man show, and the promotion has yet to find an opponent willing to bang with the English executioner. That’s a bit puzzling when you consider that no one in the division top 10 is currently booked to compete.

Maybe it’s the short notice?

“I think the dude is talented. He’s young, he hungry, he stepped up to the plate when he fought Cowboy,” Masvidal said (via BJPenn.com). “I got nothing but respect for that dude. I would love nothing more than to fight Till, it’s just May 27th is not going to work for me. If it’s in mid-June and up, whenever you want it, Till. I’m there, man. I got nothing but respect for you, but I’m coming home with that ‘W,’ my brother. I ain’t losing to no British dude, man.”

Including this one.

The nearly impossible to finish Masvidal (32-13) is coming off back-to-back losses to former welterweight title contenders Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson, two contests that were closer than each “L” might indicate.

“Gamebred” is also ranked one spot above Till (16-0-1) in the official rankings.

No telling what direction UFC plans to go in regards to its Liverpool debut, but one person still waiting for the call is The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 21 champion Kamaru Usman (12-1), who might still be on Dana White’s shit list.

Anyone out there in MMA land have a solution to the Liverpool problem?
