Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate, was injured when a dog escaped from its backyard and went after “Cupcake’s” pet pooch during a stroll through the neighborhood.
Apparently that mangy mutt didn’t get the memo.
Tate, who walked away from mixed martial arts (MMA) in lae 2016, is not your average dog walker. Prior to her role as mom-to-be, the budding fitness guru was saving this woman from drowning, then running down a mountain to save this girl.
“My dog Skooter and I were out for a walk around the neighborhood when a Cane Corso escaped from its back yard and proceeded to sprint after my dog,” Tate wrote on Facebook. “I could tell by the body language and hair raised this was no friendly approach. Before I knew it the dog was over the top of Skooter and just as it went to bite I tackled the dog. I pushed her off of my dog and quickly scooped up my pup as she ran off.”
No doubt Tate will face some criticism for battling an attack dog during her third trimester, but sometimes adrenaline and instincts kick in and well, she did make a living as a cage fighter, so that’s just how some folks are wired.
“Later, part of me felt guilt for potentially putting my baby in danger at 7 1/2 months pregnant but it was instinct I had no time to think and I am sure I would react the same way every time,” she continued. “There is no way I could have watched my dog get shredded to pieces.”
While she is no longer active inside the Octagon, the 31-year-old “Cupcake” is still very much in touch with what's happening in combat sports, offering her analysis on event judging while feuding with disgraced ex-champion Jon Jones. What she can do for an encore, remains to be seen.
Perhaps this?
