Something may be brewing between former UFC champions Jon Jones and Miesha Tate and fight fans really don’t know what to make about it.
After Jones was hit hard with a $205,000 fine and had his license revoked by California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) earlier this week for a failed drug test dating back to UFC 214, Tate wasted little time weighing in on the situation and explaining how her faith in “Bones” had been lost.
Jones, who has been fighting tooth-and-nail to avoid a potentially career-ending suspension from mixed martial arts (MMA), responded to Tate with the following tweet:
@MieshaTate I don’t quit when things get tough for me, I get stronger. You just wait and see, maybe you’ll even find motivation in it. Sucks I lost you as a fan. Enjoy retirement sister

While Jones’ social media post seemed harmless at first glance, there may be more to it when you read between the lines. At least that’s what Tate seems to think, as the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion fired back at Jones with the following tweet earlier today:
@jonnybones u make things tougher 4 urself, I hope u can figure it out this time but I’m not holding my breath. Supported u plenty in the past & if ur implying I’m a quitter that’s pretty low. There’s a time when all of us have to stop & Happy I walked away with a clean slate https://t.co/uOuhVzPAG4

Remember, Tate recently retired from MMA in 2016 after a loss to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205 in New York City. The 31-year-old has been busy ever since and is now dedicating all of her time to growing a little “Cupcake.”
While we don’t know for sure if Jones intentionally took a shot at Tate for speaking her mind, the former light heavyweight champion simply can’t get out of his own way. During a time when he should be focused solely on his bout with CSAC and United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Jones should think about taking a break from putting his name out there.
Stick with Mania as more potential back-and-forth surfaces.
