UFC on FOX 28 medical suspensions: Josh Emmett facing potential six-month sit

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to network television last weekend with the UFC on FOX 28: “Emmett vs. Stephens” mixed martial arts (MMA) extravaganza, which took place last Sat. night (Feb. 24, 2018) inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

UFC on FOX 28 was headlined by Jeremy Stephens and Josh Emmett, which ended by way of “Lil’ Heathen” knockout (video), one that ended in a potential six-month medical suspension for Emmett, who suffered a broken orbital bone in defeat.

Joining him in the six-month club are Maryna Moroz, Ben Saunders, and Alex Perez, though all three fighters could be cleared to return much sooner if given medical clearance by an approved physician.

Josh Emmett: 180-day suspension
Maryna Moroz: 180-day suspension or must seek doctor’s clearance; minimum suspension 30 days
Ben Saunders: 180-day suspension or must seek doctor’s clearance; minimum suspension 60 days
Alex Perez: 180-day suspension
Mike Perry: 45-day suspension
Tecia Torres: 30-day suspension
Ovince Saint Preux: 30-day suspension
Brian Khelleher: 30-day suspension
Renan Barao: 30-day suspension
Marion Reneau: 30-day suspension
Sara McMann: 30-day suspension
Alan Jouban: 30-day suspension
Marcin Prachnio: 30-day suspension

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
