Midnight Mania! Conor McGregor wishes Sage Northcutt happy birthday, kid

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every night, by golly

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

This column isn’t strictly MMA news.

You can usually find some of that down below, but my mandate is to bring you ‘the weird and wild from the world of MMA’, as the tagline says. In many cases, this... isn’t exactly news. This should be no surprise to you by now, but some days I feel the need to explain myself more than others, as if I’ve confessed to enjoying Jersey Shore. My other ready excuse, of course, is that you maniacs click on this stuff. In other words, you can blame yourselves for this.

Today, Sage Northcutt had himself a Twitter interaction with Irish superstar Conor McGregor, which just so happened to be on Northcutt’s 22nd birthday. It started with this mashup of Sage Northcutt’s face and body with McGregor’s tattoos.

As the absentee king of the lightweight division, who may or may not be officially deposed after UFC 223, McGregor’s reply was simply, “happy birthday kid.” Classic. Like Bruce Wayne wishing well to a young Dick Grayson.

The clincher, though, was Northcutt’s reply, in which he referred to Conor McGregor as “Mr. McGregor”. He might as well have thrown in a “gee golly” for good measure.

Israel Adesanya got really real on Instagram.

#asrealasitgets We all wanna be successful. We all see that "gram-life" of the 1% and feel a way like "if only that were me." "I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer." - Jim Carrey. That quote been speaking to me for years, but now more than ever it's super clear what he meant. All you guys see is a few minute of work in the cage and some workouts posted online...but you have no idea what it takes to get to this point. No idea what an elite prize fighter as myself has to sacrifice to get here and to keep going. You guys only see 15% of what I allow you to see about me with social media, and I still keep it . I've seen fans turn on many fighters/athletes in the past even when they just. keep. winning... Yes you like me now but at the end of the day you really don't give a fuck about me as a person. I have a job to do and I do it well, I take pictures even when you're rude to me and I smile and wave when I have to for your snapchat with 6 followers. The ones close to me are the ones that know what I go through behind the scenes, when the curtain closes, until the next time to be under the spotlight again. The ones I care about, they deal with a lot of my shit. They understand and really give a fuck about my well-being as a person...I do this shit for me and them in the long run. So Imma do my thing and keep wrecking faces, you do your thing with the cameras and all. Just HAVE some respect for us (fighters) cuz you HAVE no idea xo

Suga Sean O’Malley does indeed look exactly like Hyde. That’s uncanny. I always wondered if Hyde could fight.

Is Mike Perry considering a move to train at American Top Team? Here he tags their strength trainer Phil Daru and top coach Din Thomas.

Chris Wade explains how the UFC often treats their athletes:

The “uber” tale of the tape for Brian Ortega vs. Frankie Edgar is interesting.

Well that was intense.

Michael Chandler’s lift-jumps are your new workout goals.
