Conor McGregor’s pal, Dillon Danis, gets Bellator 198 fight with Kyle Walker

Bellator 198: “Fedor vs. Mir” goes down at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., on April 28, 2018, featuring another Heavyweight Grand Prix bracket fight in the main event with former PRIDE champion Fedor Emelianenko (36-5, 1 NC) squaring off against former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion Frank Mir (18-11).

An intriguing new bout has just been added to the card. After signing a deal with Bellator MMA last year, fans were anticipating the professional mixed martial arts (MMA) debut of Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace and F.O.C.M. (Friend Of Conor McGregor) Dillon Danis. “El Jefe,” as he’s known, is no stranger to the spotlight, having even drawn the ire of Jon “Bones” Jones in challenging him to a grappling match.

Now the roles can be reversed and McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach will prepare him for exchanges with the experienced Kyle Walker (2-4). His record is far from promising and he comes in off back-to-back losses to DeWayne Diggs and Kyle Daukaus, but it can’t all be for naught that he’s had six more MMA fights than his opponent.

Now we get to see just how far Danis’ jiu-jitsu (and his mouth) can take him.

Danis certainly brings a world class BJJ pedigree to the Bellator cage, having earned his stripes under Marcelo Garcia at Alliance in New York, going on to win the IBJJF World Championship in Gi and No-Gi in 2014 as a brown belt, then taking home the Pan American No-Gi Championship in 2015 as a black belt. It was those performances that put him on McGregor’s radar in the first place.
