UFC posts fake text messages between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, among others, to promote UFC 223

Funny ... or not so much?

When you have the privilege of being blocked by the official UFC Twitter account, you miss some of that high-concept marketing the interns social media managers drum up on a daily basis.

Fortunately, our friends at Middle Easy were there, because sharing is caring.

So with the big UFC 223 pay-per-view (PPV) event just around the corner (details), the promotion is shining a spotlight on the stacked lightweight division, which — barring a draw — will produce a new lightweight champion.

Because Conor McGregor seems content to sit out and spend his money.

Whether or not you find the above group chat funny — or cringeworthy — may depend on your sense of humor. The Twitter comments were split right down the middle, with some finding it amusing while others were simply scratching their heads.

Interestingly enough, the glue that binds this conversation is “Notorious,” along with lightweight absentee Nate Diaz, two X-factors for the future of the 155-pound weight class. A return from either will dramatically change the landscape of the division.

The reemergence of both? That fight sells itself.
