Ronda Rousey made a lot of headlines trash talking Floyd Mayweather and declaring she’d easily beat the boxing great in a street fight. UFC women’s Featherweight champion Cris Cyborg isn’t really into that kind of smack, but she did entertain the idea of an mixed martial arts (MMA) fight with “Money” when TMZ asked her about it leading up to her UFC 222 title fight with Yana Kunitskaya this Saturday night (March 3, 2018).
“You know, I’m gonna try my grappling for him,” Cyborg said. “The first thing I would try is a double leg. I think fight Mayweather in boxing, it would be crazy. But MMA, I would probably take him down. I’m not going to challenge my boxing with his boxing.”
Cyborg was happy to agree she’d tap Mayweather, but was still willing to give him his due as a pugilist.
”I know, but I’d need to slip my head a lot and have to be fast before I can catch him.”
For now she’ll be taking on a very different kind of opponent. Yana “Foxy” Kunitskaya is 10-3-1 with seven knockout wins. And while she’s making a pretty huge step up in competition, there’s no doubt she’s more capable than Mayweather of competing with Cyborg in all areas of MMA.
