Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko made a strong entrance to the newly-minted flyweight division last night (Sat., Feb. 3, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 125 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Arena Guilherme Paraense in Belem, Brazil, when she punished undefeated Brazilian prospect Priscila Cachoeira to the tune of a second-round submission.
This co-main event wasn’t even fair. Shevchenko quickly battered Cachoeira on the feet and hurt her bad. “Bullet” then took the fight to the canvas and cut up the UFC newcomer with sharp elbows and countless punches from the crucifix position. In the end, after absorbing 112 significant strikes, Cachoeira gave into a rear-naked choke towards the end of the second round.

With this performance, Shevchenko busts down the door at 125 pounds and immediately needs to be considered for a flyweight title shot. That was probably the plan all along since “Bullet” was a fierce contender at the bantamweight level, but UFC has to feel good after Shevchenko’s performance in Brazil.
