Two of the biggest stars in mixed martial arts (MMA) today came face-to-face for the first time earlier this week, as UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and UFC light heavyweight king Daniel Cormier stared each other down at the “Ultimate Fighter Season 27” media day in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As opposing coaches on the upcoming season of “TUF,” this isn’t the last time Miocic and Cormier will come nose-to-nose before their superfight at UFC 226 on July 7 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It will be the first instance that an active light heavyweight champion is moving up to challenge the heavyweight titleholder.
It didn’t take long for the champion vs. champion matchup to come to fruition after Miocic battered knockout artist Francis Ngannou at UFC 220 to lock down his record-breaking third consecutive title defense and Cormier smoked top contender Volkan Oezdemir via second-round TKO at the same event. Cormier may have wanted more money to move back up to heavyweight, but he couldn’t pass up the chance to possibly go down as the greatest fighter of all time.
If everything goes as planned, Miocic and Cormier will help reign in one of the best seasons of “TUF,” while eventually headlining the promotion’s perennial PPV event during International Fight Week. It’s one of the biggest fights the promotion could have made and one that is more than capable of headlining the most important card of the year.
