I know it’s unusual to break out the party hats when you come in as the fourth-worst at anything, but for the cast and crew of UFC Orlando, which took place last Saturday night (Feb. 24, 2018) in “The Sunshine State,” there’s cause to celebrate.

That’s because “Emmett vs. Stephens” was expected to be a ratings disaster on FOX. Aside from the lack of marquee names atop the four-fight main card, UFC Orlando was facing stiff competition from the Olympics on NBC, as well as the Golden State Warriors on ABC.

The former pulled 11,422,000 viewers while the latter returned 4,051,000.

UFC on FOX 28 finished with 2,037,000 eyeballs, according to MMA Fighting, putting it well ahead of the paltry 1,771,000 who tuned in to watch Jacare Souza melt Derek Brunson last month in Charlotte.

The main event, featuring Jeremey Stephens’ controversial knockout win over Josh Emmett, peaked at 2,731,000 against 1,216,000 for the UFC Orlando preliminary fights on FOX, the highest “Prelims” rating since 2016.
