UFC on Fox 28 results: Ilir Latifi drops, then chokes out Ovince Saint Preux standing up

MMA: UFC 215-Latifi vs Pedro Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

Light heavyweight titans Ilir “the Sledgehammer” Latifi and Ovince St. Preux stepped into the Octagon to do battle tonight (February 24th, 2018) at UFC on FOX 28 from inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, live and free on big Fox.

At stake was a top contender spot in the thin air of light heavyweight. Latifi had won four of his last five bouts, while OSP had won three straight.

OSP came out calm, switching stances, while Latifi circled looking for low kicks. OSP landed a side kick to the body. Latifi landed a couple quick hooks inside. He landed a body kick, then an outside low kick. OSP threw up a high kick that whiffed over Ilir’s head. Latifi flurried in, landing a couple left straights. Latifi ducked inside, forehead to chest, and his rear overhand caught OSP, sending him to the canvas! Latifi followed up, knocking OSP down again! He grabbed a standing guillotine, readjusted, and in a couple seconds dumped an unconscious St. Preux to the canvas. What a finish for the Sledgehammer!! All of Sweden should be proud. St. Preux did tap, but on the opposite side of the referee, who didn’t see it.

In his post-fight interview, Ilir Latifi called out Daniel Cormier, with all respect, heavyweight, light heavyweight, doesn’t matter. He couldn’t hear Cormier’s reply, and moved towards the edge of the cage trying to hear, John Anik having to shepherd him back to the center. Latifi confirmed that OSP had tapped but the referee didn’t see it. That was an astonishing finishing sequence for the Sledgehammer.

Official result: Ilir Latifi def. Ovince Saint Preux via submission (guillotine) at 3:48 of round 1
