UFC on Fox 28 results: Max Griffin edges Mike Perry in firefight

High-octane welterweights Mike Perry and Max Griffin squared off tonight (February 24th, 2018) at UFC on FOX 28 from inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, live and free on big Fox. The fight lived up to the hype, as the underdog Max Griffin put on a disciplined performance to take a decision over the hometown favorite Mike Perry.

Perry opened immediately with a lead hook kick. He jabbed to the body, Griffin looked to counter. Max Griffin landed a couple nice jabs, Perry missed on a swinging overhand. Perry stayed after Griffin, narrowly missing on a his hooks while Griffin landed straight punches. Perry grabbed double underhooks and pushed Griffin to the cage. He landed a couple knees to the thigh before Griffin shoved him away. Griffin landed a leg kick. Perry stalked forward, landing a jab, missing a lead high kick. Perry threw a front kick, checked. Griffin moved away from a front kick and landed a jab. Good movement early from Griffin, who countered an uppercut attempt with a hook. Perry threw out a front kick, and Griffin came back with a one-two that snapped his head back a little. Griffin stepped into a combination. He ducked under a head kick and took Perry down, but Perry scrambled and reversed! He took Griffin’s back, then got mount just as the round ended.

Perry came out looking to be a little quicker in the second round, but took a three-punch combination on the chin from Griffin. Perry landed a leg kick but ate another counter. Griffin landed a check hook, then blitzed with another combination. Perry landed a hook. He seemed to be looking for one shot at a time. Griffin ate a hook from Perry, ducked under another, caught a kick and sent Perry tumbling off balance for a second. Both fighters landed power hooks in an exchange. Perry landed a teep. He slipped a right straight from Max. He tried to barrel his way inside, but Griffin backed him off with nice straight punches. Perry landed a jab. Perry landed another jab, then a hook off the jab, but then Griffin stunned Perry with a combination, knocking him down! It was the left hook after the right straight that did the trick. He pounced on top, looking for the finish, but Perry pulled himself together and got back to his feet. Griffin got aggressive again, teeing off with an 8-punch combination, but with the round winding down he didn’t try to force the finish.

Griffin blitzes again, landing those nice shots, but Perry countered with an overhand, seeming to hurt Griffin! He backed off and Perry sensed an opening. He dove in for a takedown, nearly taking the back against the cage, but Griffin shucked him to the floor! Griffin landed a couple nice low kicks. Griffin caught Perry with another right straight as Perry tried to stalk his way inside. Perry landed a hard left hook, then a right hand over the top! Griffin stayed on his bike, looking for straight counters and trying to stay away from Perry’s power. Perry raised his arms, trying to lure Griffin into a firefight. Griffin landed a sharp straight. Perry stayed stalking, looking for that big shot. He landed a big high kick, then an hard uppercut! With forty-five seconds remaining, Perry was really going for it. He landed a takedown for a couple seconds, then clinched Griffin against the cage. He got Griffin down, but the fight ended before he could really do anything with it.

The crowd booed the result when it went against the hometown guy in Mike Perry. Max Griffin thanked his manager and team, then shouted out Orlando- “tell me that wasn’t a hell of a fight! Come on!” He said he hit Perry with some solid shots and Perry didn’t go away. Great win for the underdog, Max Griffin; a very disciplined gameplan and performance got him the win against a very dangerous opponent.
