One of the biggest prospects in mixed martial arts (MMA) today will make his return in the coming months as middleweight sensation Israel Adesanya takes on Marvin Vettori at UFC on FOX 29 on April 14 from inside Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, per a recent announcement by UFC officials.
Adesanya, 28, made a huge divisional splash with a second-round TKO win over Rob Wilkinson in his Octagon debut earlier this month at UFC 221. The former kickboxing standout made easy work of Wilkinson so it’s going to be interesting to see how he does moving up the 185-pound ladder. “Last Stylebender” is not looking to take any easy fights during his UFC ascension so expect a top 15 opponent if he’s able to get past Vettori in Glendale.
Vettori, 24, is another top prospect at the middleweight level. The former Venator FC champion has done well for himself in UFC by compiling a 2-1-1 divisional record, but hasn’t made the necessary strides at a young age to push him into the top 15. A sneaky victory over a formidable and highly-touted opponent like Adesanya may finally land Vettori the divisional appeal he’s been looking for.
UFC on FOX 29 will be headlined by a lightweight matchup pitting wild brawler Justin Gaethje against perennial contender Dustin Poirier, and feature a welterweight clash between former interim tilteholder Carlos Condit and fan favorite Matt Brown.
