Bellator 195: “Caldwell vs. Higo” takes place Mar. 2, 2018 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma. It will be the first defense of the Bantamweight title for champion Darrion Caldwell (11-1) as he takes on a tough Brazilian foe named Leandro Higo (18-3).

On the eve of this fight word has come from MMA Fighting that former Bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao (18-9-1) is no longer with the promotion after they opted not to renew his contract.

Galvao had an impressive early tenure in Bellator, winning the season six Bantamweight tournament at Bellator 73 in 2012, then going on a four fight win streak afterward that culminated in submitting Joe Warren to claim the title at Bellator 135 in 2015 in dramatic fashion.

Unfortunately since that time things had gone South for Galvao. He lost the title to Eduardo Dantas in his very first defense after multiple delays, dropped three of his last four overall with only one win via split decision. Even a move up to Featherweight didn’t change Galvao’s fortunes.

“Loro” will undoubtedly get a shot elsewhere as a former world champion with an impressive resume. He doesn’t seem to be taking the news of his release all that hard.
