The World Boxing Super Series got its first super middleweight finalist earlier today (Sat., Feb. 17, 2018) when George Groves defeated the outspoken Chris Eubank Jr. by unanimous decision.
Eubank demonstrated his customary athleticism and aggression, but Groves stayed cool under fire and plugged away whenever Eubank’s aggression opened him up for “St. George’s” favored right hand. Eubank’s overcommitment to his punches caused a clash of heads in the early rounds, opening a cut over his eye that only increased his desperation and wildness.
Still, Eubank showed immense heart and did everything possible to give Groves the business in the latter portions of the fight. Pure athleticism just wasn’t enough, though, and Groves’ defense and jab shined.
