UFC’s Alexey Oleynik, glued to the television, watched in horror as gunman shot up his daughter’s Parkland school

New, comments

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight contender, Alexey Oleynik, makes his living as a cage fighter, so no doubt the “Boa Constrictor” has nerves of steel. That said, I’m not sure anything could have prepared him for the afternoon of Feb. 14, 2018.

That’s when former student, identified by police as Nikolas Cruz, allegedly opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people and hospitalizing 14 others.

Oleynik’s daughter, Polina, was in class when the shots rang out.

“A prosperous neighborhood, good school, safety, and then you see your child running from the school filmed by the helicopter camera, while watching news about deadly shooting in school,” Oleynik said (via The Sun). “I turned the sound off. Don’t want to make further comments.”

Polina escaped unharmed.

Oleynik (55-11-1) is coming off a technical knockout loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 217 last November in New York, but hopes to rebound against Junior Albini at the UFC 224 extravaganza this May in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

As for Polina, she ended up being interviewed after the tragedy.
