Hey, remember when Anderson Silva was all like “My career’s not over yet” ... yeah, it might be.
That’s because the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion was popped for the synthetic testosterone methyltestosterone, according to Combate, as well as an unspecified diuretic prior to his UFC Fight Night 122 bout against Kelvin Gastelum.
“The Spider” was yanked from the overseas fight card and former champion Michael Bisping took his place, only to get KTFO in the first round. So, we can blame Silva for turning the entire division on its head. On second thought, scratch that, let’s blame his lawyers instead.
Or do we blame a tainted supplement?
This is not the first drug-test fiasco for Silva, as the Brazilian was suspended one year after pissing dirty in the wake of UFC 183 back in early 2015 (and blamed sex drugs for the misstep), a pay-per-view (PPV) event that also benched Nick Diaz for weed.
It should also be noted Silva tested positive for oxazepam and temazepam during that debacle.
Team Spider wants United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to overlook that past transgression, as it was punishable under Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). If not, Silva could be sat for up to four years for his repeat offenses, possible more.
No doubt that would send the now-42 year-old Silva into retirement.
