As fight week turns into fight night, we come into episode 5 of UFC Embedded for UFC 231. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has set up shop in Toronto, Canada for this card that features two battles for a belt: champ Max Holloway vs. Brian Ortega for the 145 pound featherweight title and Valentina Shevchenko vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk 125 pound women’s flyweight title.
In this episode, Max Holloway takes his family out on the town in Toronto to experience some Christmas cheer. On the other side of the main event, Brian Ortega explores his home away from home, a sprawling mansion owned by Canadian meda-stock trader David Berry.
At UFC media day, Gunnar Nelson continues to be his own boring self, while Charles “Cowboy” Oliveira continues to be even more cowboy than “Cowboy” Cerrone. Claudia Gadelha rocks the fur, and Nina Ansaroff has fiance and women’s bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes in her corner.
We then move on to the UFC 231 open workouts, where Joanna Jedrzejczyk learns she’s about to break Ronda Rousey’s record for most women’s title fights in UFC history. Rener Gracie extols (what else) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brian Ortega gives a kid a bull ride. Valentina Shevchenko gives everyone a ticket to the gun show. And as usual, Max Holloway’s kid steals the show.
