Welcome to Midnight Mania!
In what remains an odd event, Floyd Mayweather will box undefeated kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve in Japan, at RIZIN 14. The event will also feature a superfight between flyweight champion Kyoji Horiguchi and Bellator bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell in a superb cross-promotional coup.
The ruleset this will be contested under basically eliminates all risk to Floyd Mayweather, as it is a 3-round exhibition that will not appear on either man’s boxing or MMA record. There will be no judges, so presumably there will be no winner unless someone gets a finish. Both fighters will wear 8-ounce gloves. Floyd is probably not very worried about fighting a man several weight classes below him for just three rounds.
At least the unrelentingly exciting Tenshin Nasukawa will be drawing a lot of eyes. The caption for this trailer auto-translated to:

On CTV News Channel, Dana White said that he asked Max Holloway to move up to lightweight due to his weight cutting issues, but Holloway wanted to stay at featherweight. White hopes that he moves up to lightweight win or lose following #UFC231.— Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) December 6, 2018
Gunnar Nelson says that next time Conor McGregor fights Khabib Nurmagomedov- and he expects a rematch at some point- he will definitely be involved in the preparation.
(VIDEO) @GunniNelson tells me that at some point down the road we will see Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor 2 and next time he will definitely be part of Conor's camp. He also praises Al Iaquinta's performance against Nurmagomedov from earlier in the year. #UFC231 pic.twitter.com/cXcxFYQM6V— Chamatkar Sandhu (@SandhuMMA) December 6, 2018
Sorry, but this is not only a stupid question from Robin Black, but also a perfect summation of his particular flair for esoteric nonsense.
"Gracie Jiu Jitsu isn't just grappling. We think of it as grappling, but the best fighters are neither grapplers nor strikers. When you knocked out Frankie Edgar, is that still Gracie Jiu Jitsu?"— Keith Ó Gealbháin (@KeithGalvin) December 6, 2018

Dana White calling a victim of domestic violence to make sure it is ‘cool’ to have her fight alongside a perpetrator of domestic violence is an unbelievably insensitive move, particularly as Ostovich is one of his lowest paid contractors. All this shows is that he had opportunity to think about this, and still, inexplicably, decided it was a good idea. Dana also keeps talking about redemption, but someone show me where Hardy has displayed any shred of genuine remorse for his actions. Without that, there can be no redemption, no growth.
Dana White discusses the decision to have Greg Hardy compete on January 19th, the same card as Rachael Ostovich, a recent victim of domestic violence.— Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) December 6, 2018
White has spoken to Rachael since Hardy was added to hear her feelings on it. Hardy will remain on the card despite the backlash pic.twitter.com/6EHMIXS9lm
This really shouldn’t be a question she has to face. Rachael Ostovich has enough on her plate without concerning herself with this too, and she says she would love to move forward and focus on training.
A message that I received from @rachaelostovich regarding Dana White's comments from earlier today on her and former NFL player Greg Hardy competing on the same card next month. pic.twitter.com/3THZ50gEpR— Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) December 6, 2018
Brian Ortega has a special talent for losing fights right up until he wins them.
Brendan Schaub can’t math good.
Wilder vs. Fury, if Wilder talked like Thor.

Max Holloway has a sweet sweep- let the other two Andrews break it down for you.
They also break down Brian Ortega:
Before the Russians went with the three-barreled space shotgun, they considered a design possibly even stranger- a space revolver chambered to accept shotgun rounds, long before the Taurus Judge.
I never thought of lemurs as ghostly but it fits.
The name lemur comes from the Latin for "spirits of the dead", due to their ghostly faces. pic.twitter.com/D7RGY4pNNA— Quite Interesting (@qikipedia) December 7, 2018
