Let’s try this again.
Former PRIDE FC and UFC heavyweight striking sensation, Mirko Filipovic, has once again been slotted to rematch fellow Octagon export Roy Nelson, this time at the Bellator 217 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Feb. 16 at Mohegan Sun.
That’s according to a report from ESPN.
The pair were first scheduled to throw hands for Scott Coker and Co. at Bellator 200 last May in London; however, “Cro Cop” (37-11-2, 1 NC) suffered a late knee injury and was pulled from the card. Conveniently, the 44 year-old Filipovic was well enough to compete for RIZIN just a few months later, where he steamrolled Roque Martinez in less than a round.
As for Nelson (23-16), he would return to the Bellator cage against Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov, but would lose both contests, the latter by knockout. The 42 year-old “Big Country” has not won back-to-back fights in nearly six years.
