Undefeated Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender, Dominick Reyes, knows he’s still a few big wins away from a 205-pound title shot. But he also knows that the easiest way to procure the next crack at the division crown is to replace someone currently ranked in the Top 5.
Like Anthony Smith, for example.
“Hey Anthony Smith, I was told you turned me down for a No. 1 contender fight in Jan. at UFC 233 because your hand’s sore, so I guess you HAVE excuses,” Reyes wrote on social media. “Heal up, let’s do it in Feb or March, you pick! I’m gonna test that ‘lionheart’!”
As you might expect, Smith did not appreciate the accusation.
“Hey DUMB-anick, Lesson ONE: Don’t turn down fights Jan Blachowicz and Jimi Manuwa then pretend you want to fight me,” Smith retorted. “Makes you look both afraid and thirsty. Lesson TWO: Your name ain’t Jones or Gus, last I checked. So SLOW your STROLL, you COWARDLY TROLL.”
Them fightin’ words!
Smith (31-13) is riding a three-fight winning streak with knockout finishes over Rashad Evans, Shogun Rua, and Volkan Oezdemir, two former champions and one ex-title contender. Reyes (10-0), meanwhile, has finished three of his first four UFC opponents and holds eight stoppage in 10 victories.
If and when these two every hook ‘em up ... who would you bet on?
