That was fast.

Not long after collecting $50,000 for his knockout win over Alex Perez, former flyweight title contender Joseph Benavidez will make a quick turnaround to battle undefeated division phenom Deiveson Figueiredo, according to L.A. Times.

They’ll do the deed at the upcoming UFC 233 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sat., Jan. 26, 2018 inside Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., a 125-pound scrap that for now, puts the dissolution of the flyweight division on hold.

Benavidez (26-5) split his two appearances in 2018. After coming up on the wrong end of a split-decision loss at UFC 225, courtesy of Sergio Pettis, the longtime Team Alpha Male product took Perez to the cleaners at last weekend’s Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale.

As for Figueiredo (15-0), the Brazilian wunderkind has terrorized the flyweight division since making his Octagon debut back in June 2017, That includes his destruction of John Moraga at UFC Fight Night 135 back in August.

As of this writing, UFC 233 is still without a main event; however, the flyweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw is currently slotted to co-headline. Elsewhere on the card, Ben Askren makes his UFC debut opposite Robbie Lawler.
