Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight veteran, Ryan Jimmo, was killed in June 2017 when a truck driven by Anthony Getschel struck “Big Deal” during a roadside confrontation in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
As a result, Getschel, 26, will spend the next eight years behind bars, then face a suspension of his driving privileges for another eight years following his release. The sentence was broken down into six years for manslaughter, with another two years for fleeing the scene.
“I’m very sorry for the pain that I caused,” Getschel told court (via Edmonton Journal). “I’ll never be able to forgive myself for what happened.”
Jimmo (19-5), who was just 34 at the time of his passing, had a three-year run under the UFC banner with a record of 3-4 prior to his release in 2015. Prior to that, “Big Deal” racked up an impressive 16-1 record on the regional circuit with nine finishes.
