Cat Zingano’s featherweight debut did not go as planned earlier tonight (Sat., Dec. 29, 2018) at UFC 232 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., when she encountered a Megan Anderson kick to the eyeball that forced an early first-round TKO stoppage.
The much smaller Zingano opened up with some kicks to Anderson’s legs. As the action moved along the cage Anderson launched a quick head kick that seemed to glance Zingano’s face. Zingano winced in pain and immediately covered up her eye. The referee did not stop the action and Anderson rushed in to land a follow-up body shot before the fight was officially stopped.

Upon further review, it was revealed that Anderson’s kick along the cage also included a nice toe to Zingano’s eyeball. The sequence looked pretty painful so it’s understandable that “Alpha” wasn’t able to continue.
While this is an unfortunate incident to end one of the most exciting fights on the UFC 232 card, Anderson did what she needed to do to walk away with the win. Her length certainly played a role in her ability to land a high head kick on Zingano early and it could help her keep UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg at bay if the two happen to meet in 2019.
Of course, Cyborg will first have to get past UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes later tonight on UFC 232’s pay-per-view (PPV) main card.
