Jon Jones will rematch Alexander Gustafsson for the vacant light heavyweight title in the UFC 232 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, scheduled for TONIGHT (Sat., Dec. 29, 2018) inside The Forum in Inglewood, California. Reigning division kingpin and current heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, will be stripped of his 205-pound strap just as soon as the first punch is thrown between “Bones” and “The Mauler.”
The first Jones-Gustafsson fight is widely considered one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights of all time; however, Jones’ career has been a veritable disaster in the years that followed and the longtime pound-for-pound great, now 31, has competed just four times during that span.
And then we have the drug-testing fiasco that moved UFC 232 from Nevada to California.
Gustafsson, meanwhile, also saw his share of ups and downs. After getting creamed by Anthony Johnson in early 2015, the 31 year-old “Mauler” lost a close decision to “DC” in a showdown for the light heavyweight title, then battled injuries that hampered his fight frequency. None of that matters with a win tonight in “The Golden State.”
