Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 185-pound champion, Anderson Silva, is booked to fight Israel Adesanya at the upcoming UFC 234 pay-per-view (PPV) event this February in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
“The Spider” (34-8, 1 NC) will have you believe he’s the same killer who torched a who’s-who of middleweights while moonlighting as a light heavyweight assassin. The bookies charged with laying odds on his “Last Stylebender” fight, however, are a bit more realistic.
They see the Silva who turns 44 next April after dropping four of his last six (with one no contest). And that’s not counting his failed drug test and shattered shin. The Brazilian underdog opened at +280 against -400 for the favored Adesanya (15-0), who is 29 and in the prime of his career.
Crunch the numbers over at Best Fight Odds right here.
The fact that many people view this as a lopsided match up (but not to Liddell vs. Ortiz proportions) is probably why promotion president Dana White was so eager to offer “The Spider” a title shot with a win over Adesanya. It’s easy to promise something you never have to deliver.
It seems the bookies share that sentiment as we head into 2019.
